Osinbajo, Emefiele, Atiku, others to meet over Nigeria’s economic crisis

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is to present a lead paper at an international entrepreneurship conference holding Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja to marshal out a roadmap for Nigeria’s economic turnaround.

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar is chairing the event while the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefele is to deliver the keynote paper at the occasion that would also feature no fewer than four serving ministers with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bello Mohammed, as the chief host.

According to a statement issued yesterday by former Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo in Abuja, the conference is part of the golden jubilee ceremony of Beta Sigma Fraternity, a non- governmental, philanthropic and voluntary organisation for graduates and undergraduates of Nigerian universities

Nwodo, who is the current president of the organisation said the conference with the theme, “Entrepreneurship: The Driving Wheel To Sustainable Economic Development In Nigeria”, intends to explore the role stakeholders can play to surmount the current economic challenges in the country, especially as a result of crash in international crude price.

“Entrepreneurship and different models of engagement with organised private sector and individuals would be discussed to help chart a new pathway to prosperity in Nigeria outside the complete dependence on crude oil. The goals of the conference would include, but not limited, to helping to raise public awareness about the role of entrepreneurs in economic development of nations, strengthen the capacity of banks and other financial institutions in supporting upcoming entrepreneurs to succeed, chart a new pathway for the economic development of Nigeria outside crude oil and to access how businesses and government can develop strategies and policies to solve our current economic crises in Nigeria.”

The statement listed other guest speakers for the event as the Minister of Trade, Commerce and Industry, Mr. Okechukwu Enelamah, Minister of Labour, Productivity and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, as well as his Agriculture and Rural Development counterpart, Chief Audu Ogbeh.

Others to join the panel of discussants include the Managing Director of Bank of Industry |(BOI), Mr. Waheed Olagunju, Director General/CEO, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda and Anambra State Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning and Investments, Mr. Mark Okoye II.

According to Nwodo, notable members of the organization also expected to speak at the conference include former MD of Diamond Bank, Mr. Emeka Onwuka; Director General, Alex Ekwueme Foundation, Dr. Duke Okwuolisa Igwilo among other dignitaries.
