Out-of-school children a threat to Kaduna, national well-being, Sani says
GOVERNOR Uba Sani has identified the burgeoning population of out-of school-children as a threat to the survival and development of Kaduna State and the North in general.
He said already, his government was taking steps to address the situation.
According to him, the large number of out-of-school children, including those with disabilities, is a significant challenge to inclusive development.
The governor, who spoke, while declaring open the Reaching Out-of-School Children (ROOSC) Startup Workshop, yesterday, listed what his administration had been doing to tackle the problem.
He said the Kaduna State government had identified access to quality education and provision of infrastructure as key challenges to the education sector in the northern states.
Sani added that his administration had built 62 new secondary schools, comprising 39 junior and 23 senior secondary Schools across the three senatorial zones to cater to the growing educational needs of the state.
He added that 2,000 qualified teachers had been recruited, awaiting deployment to the newly completed schools, to ensure effective teaching and learning.
Earlier in his welcome address, the State Coordinator of ROOSC, Ezra Angai, said the project was to reduce the number of uneducated children significantly and build a more equitable education system that leaves no child behind.
