Oyo approves N63.4b for Govt House renovation to mark state’s 50th anniversary

APC frowns on anti-party activities, says ‘no longer business-as-usual’

Oyo State Executive Council has approved N63.4 billion to overhaul the Government House structures. A statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, in Ibadan, the state capital, stated that the Council described the current state and ambience of the Government House as an embarrassment and an unbefitting facility.

He noted that for the past six years, the governor and his deputy had been living in their personal houses instead of their official residences at the Government House.

Oyelade said that the Banquet Hall at the Government House would be completed before the 50th anniversary of the state, next year, as part of the administration’s legacy for the next administration.

The Council also approved N131.7 million to employ professional gardeners for the maintenance of green areas and other designated places in the Government House.

Similarly, in fulfilment of its determination to upgrade the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport to International standard, the state government is processing the installation of Instrument Landing Systems (ILS).

The approval was given for the procurement and installation by the State Executive Council for N14.2 billion. According to the commissioner, the ILS technology will ensure the smooth landing of aircraft, especially in bad weather.

Oyelade said that an earlier instrument procured by the Federal Government was damaged and the state has taken it upon itself to procure and install another one within six months.

The Executive Council, which approved the first instalment payment for the service agreement on the International Agro-Food Market, which will be constructed at Ijaiye, also approved a take-off grant of N130,000,000 for the Oyo State New Towns and Cities Development Authority.

IN another development, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has issued a stern warning to party members, cautioning them against actions, utterances, and associations deemed detrimental to the party’s collective interest ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The warning, described by insiders as a “riot act,” follows recent media reports suggesting that two prominent APC leaders (names withheld) made remarks praising the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.

The comments were seen as aligning too closely with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, raising concerns about internal loyalty within the APC.

In a statement, yesterday, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, said the APC would no longer condone acts of sabotage, disloyalty, and indiscipline from individuals pursuing personal interests at the expense of the party’s unity and electoral goals.

Sadare added that while the party intends to engage the alleged saboteurs democratically, it would not hesitate to discipline those who get involved in anti-party activities.
