Peter Obi honours Pope Leo XIV on 70th birthday

Labour Party presidential candidate and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has joined Catholics worldwide in marking the 70th birthday of Pope Leo XIV.

In a message posted on his X handle on Sunday, under the title “Seventy Years of Grace”, Obi described the Pope’s life as “a living witness to God’s grace,” highlighting his service to the Church.

Obi noted the significance of the birthday coinciding with the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross, stating, “This sacred feast reminds us that the Cross, once a symbol of suffering, has become the sign of victory, redemption, and unshakeable hope. In the same way, your life shows how faith, perseverance, and fidelity to Christ can transform trials into triumphs.”

The former governor also offered a prayer for the Pontiff’s ongoing mission, writing, “May the Lord guide and guard you always, blessing your years ahead with health, peace, and lasting fulfilment.”

He concluded his tribute with the traditional blessing, “Ad multos annos!”
