Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the Abuja–Kaduna train derailment, sympathising with the injured and commending God that no lives were lost in the incident.

In a statement on his official X-handle, Obi said the derailment was a reminder of the urgent need to prioritise safety in the nation’s transport sector.
“My heartfelt sympathy goes to all those who sustained injuries and were traumatised by the accident. We are grateful that no life was lost, and I pray for the quick recovery of the injured,” he said.

He called on relevant authorities to provide prompt medical care, investigate the causes, and take decisive measures to restore confidence in rail transport as a vital driver of development.
“Incidents like this must spur us to do better in maintaining critical infrastructure, because the safety and wellbeing of citizens must remain paramount,” Obi added.
