PHED begins implementation of supplementary order, promises improved service

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) has announced the commencement of the implementation of the April 2024 supplementary order to the Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO) in its franchise, assuring customers of improved service delivery.

The distribution company (DisCo), in a statement signed by its Head, Corporate Communications , Olubukola Ilevbare, pointed out that under the new tariff regime, customers on Band A Feeders that typically receive a minimum supply of power for 20 hours per day will now be expected/obliged to pay N225/kWh.

Recall that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had issued new directives to DisCos on the implementation of the April 2024 MYTO, ordering the immediate upward review of electricity tariffs.

The commission further directed all DisCos to provide as much clarity as possible to all affected customers.

Ilevbare said: “The Supplementary order emphasises provisions of the MYTO applicable to customers on Band A segment, taking into consideration other favourable obligations by the service provider to Band A customers.

“According to the order, this new tariff is modeled to cushion the effects of recent shifts in key economic indices such as inflation rates, foreign exchange rates, gas prices, and to enable improved delivery of other responsibilities across the value chain, which impact operational efficiencies and ability to reliably supply power to esteemed customers.”

The DisCo further assured Band A customers of full compliance with the objectives of the new tariff order, noting that the management team is committed to the delivery of optimal and quality services in the cost-reflective dispensation.

Also, PHED notified its customers on Bands B, C, D and E that their tariff remains unchanged, as the recently implemented supplementary order is only applicable to customers on Band A feeders.
