Police ban Sallah Durbar in Kano
Kano State Police Command has barred the traditional Sallah Durbar across the state.
The police declared that a joint team of the Army, Air Force, Navy, and men of the Department of State Security will be deployed to enforce strict compliance with the Durbar ban.
Addressing Journalists on Friday, Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, in the company of commanders of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Director DSS, declared that no horse riding, car racing, reckless and dangerous driving will be tolerated on Sallah days.
Bakori noted that the action became necessary following the rising tension and uncertainties around Durbar’s activities, particularly the tendency to plunge the state into anarchy.
The ban on Sallah Durbar came less than 24 hours after the deposed emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, cancelled his earlier planned Durbar celebration following tension in the city.
Meanwhile, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the emirate council under Muhammadu Sanusi II, emir of Kano, to commence preparation for the Sallah Durbar celebration.
