The Delta State Police Command on Friday denied rumours that a former member of the House of Representatives, Joan Onyemaechi, who was kidnapped on Tuesday was murdered by her abductors.
The former lawmaker and commissioner, popularly known as Ada Anioma, who represented Aniocha/Oshimili Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, was kidnapped in Asaba, the state capital on Tuesday.
It was reported that she was murdered and her body dumped near the Onitsha end of the Niger Bridge after the family allegedly failed to pay ransom demanded.
But the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, described the social media reports as rumours, saying “There is no update on the kidnap case as no contact has been established with the abductors since the incident occurred on Tuesday,”

The PPRO refuted the reports when contacted for confirmation, even though the social media was flooded on Friday morning with news of the discovery of the remains of the abducted ex-Delta commissioner and two others at the Onitsha end of the Niger bridge.
