Police nab five-man robbery gang in Benue

CP Onyeka

The police in Benue have smashed a five-man robbery gang terrorising residents along the Adikpo-Ugbema road.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Nnamdi Onyeka, who confirmed this yesterday, said his men, acting on a tip off, apprehended the gang leader, one Fashie Daniel, 30, while further investigation led to the arrest of the other members, including a 47-year-old local guns fabricator.

Onyeka, who was holding his first briefing with newsmen since his redeployment to Benue State in July, said his agenda was to ensure that “Benue people sleep with their eyes closed and to protect life and property.”

He urged members of the public to always avail the police with any useful information that could help in ridding the society of criminal elements.

The police boss assured that under his watch, he would not tolerate any form of criminality.

“I am not an office commissioner of police, I am a field officer. The proper thing now would be for the criminals in the state to relocate,” he said.

The CP also paraded some robbery suspects and their weapons, which include two AK47 automatic rifles, two locally made AK47 rifles, two locally made pistols, 245 rounds of ammunition, 130 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, as well as assorted charms, and amulets.
