President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said he will do the needful to restore peace in Southeast region, which he noted had weathered too many storms.
The President spoke yesterday in Bende, Abia State, while unveiling a five-year programme tagged, ‘Peace in the South East Region Project (PISE-P)’ initiated by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu, who represents Abia State Bende Constituency in the House.
The president, who was represented by the Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, described the Southeast zone as an industrial hub that plays a vital role in boosting the nation’s economic development.
He said, “we know that the Southeast has weathered too many storms but the current economic stagnation has shaken the foundation of the region.
“We are not going to sit back and watch the fire go beyond what we can handle. We are here to extinguish the fire permanently.”
He, however, expressed Federal Government’s concern over the extensive economic devastation inflicted on the region by non-state actors warning that the Federal Government will not allow any sinister operations by economic saboteurs, “who masquerade as advocates of Ndigbo, to continue in the region.”
He expressed government’s willingness to collaborate with the citizenry and support their initiatives, such as PISE-P, to enhance its efforts in restoring peace and the vibrant economic life in the region.
