• Sule approves N200m for another military super camp in Nasarawa
The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has decried the resurgence of terrorists and other security threats in the North as a glaring failure of the Federal Government.
It also faulted the Federal Government’s continued negotiations with terrorists amid the dwindling economy and widespread hardship.
Meanwhile, to curb further terror attacks in Nasarawa State, Governor Abdullahi Sule has approved the establishment of another military super camp in Tatara, Panda Development Area of Karu Local Council of the state.
A statement by the National Vice Chairman, North West, Abba Namatazu, PRP described the escalating insecurity in some states as cause for concern, as once-vibrant communities had been uprooted, thousands of villagers displaced and others killed.
The opposition party faulted the idea of establishing negotiation talks with the terrorists, which it believed would rather embolden and propel the criminals to take up more arms against the state.
Namatazu said, “Governments should stop the practice of negotiating with the terrorists, as that will embolden them and encourage others to take up arms against the state or rival communities at the slightest opportunity. Where necessary, communities should be trained and armed to defend themselves.
“Hundreds of thousands of hectares of productive agricultural lands across the North East, North West and North Central have been abandoned, leading to unprecedented food crises across the nation. The PRP believes a concerted effort involving all stakeholders should be mounted to confront the issue head-on.”
Still on security, the opposition party challenged the government to invest more in the training of security personnel, welfare, intelligence gathering, provision of requisite equipment as well as fighting corruption within the security establishment, “if we desire to crush the recalcitrant terrorists, and deter would-be terrorists from approaching our borders.”
It accused politicians of sending their children to private universities in Nigeria and across the globe while children of the poor are left scavenging to feed.
SULE, who visited Tatara on Monday to commiserate with the people over the recent crisis that left seven people dead, said he would approve N200 million for the military camp to be established in Tatara, a border community with Kaduna State.
According to the governor, no amount of money is too much as long as it involves the welfare and security of the people of the state.
“I will approve N200 million needed to set up the military super camp in Tatara because there is no amount of money that is so much when it comes to the lives of our people,” he said.
Sule, who described the terror attack as barbaric and unnecessary, warned that his administration would not harbour any group that takes pleasure in terrorising and wasting human lives and does not want to live in peace with others.
