The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has decried the resurgence of terrorists and other security threats in the Northern part of the country.

The opposition party also worried about the state of the nation’s economy, giving rise to a high cost of living and inflation rate.

National Vice Chairman, North-West, Abba Sule Namatazu, in a statement, insisted that the spreading insecurity bedeviling some states is cause for concern.

He faulted the idea of establishing negotiation talks with the terrorists, which he claimed would embolden and propel the criminals to take up more arms against the state.

“Hundreds of thousands of hectares of productive agricultural lands across the North-East, North-West and North-Central have been abandoned leading to unprecedented food crises across the nation. The PRP believes a concerted effort involving all stakeholders should be mounted to confront the issue head-on.”

The PRP chieftain hinted that the plan of the Federal Government to privatize public higher institutions would be rejected with all necessary measures.

“PRP and other serious-minded Nigerians will challenge any attempt at privatizing public schools which most of the current and past leaders attended. We therefore urge the government to drop this idea in its entirety in the interest of the common man and common sense,” he said.

“Nigeria is now a place where “elected” and appointed leaders are busy sending their children to study in some of the most prestigious institutions globally while the children of the poor are left in the street scavenging for what to eat not to talk of going to school.”

While acknowledging the need to reform existing tax laws to reflect the current reality, the party reminded the Federal Government that tax reform is of national concern and should be handled by professionals.

The party called for a wider consultation to arrive at a just, robust, and reliable tax system that will serve the overall interest of the nation.
