Radda dismisses vice presidential ambition rumours

Katsina State Governor, Dr Dikko Radda, has dismissed rumours about his alleged vice presidential ambition, insisting that his singular focus remains serving the people of the state.

Radda stated this during the distribution of bags of grains and cash assistance to victims affected by insecurity in Dutsinma Local Government Area.

Recent reports have speculated that President Bola Tinubu may not field Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate should he choose to run for another term in office in 2027.

This has led to unconfirmed calls from some quarters in Katsina State for the President to choose Radda as his running mate, with the calls reportedly fueling rumours that the governor had begun lobbying for the VP slot.

But speaking at the Dustinma event, the governor said there was nothing of the sort per his ambition to become the nation’s number two citizen.

“I’ve seen posters and messages suggesting I’m pursuing another office. Let me be clear: I sought your mandate to serve as Governor of Katsina State, and that remains my sole focus.

“I am not behind any campaign to contest elsewhere. My duty is to fulfil the trust you’ve placed in me,” he said.

The event, which saw the distribution of 600 bags of maize and ₦5,000 cash to each victim of insecurity, was organised by the Dutsinma Development Forum.

Radda said, “Today demonstrates our shared values; caring for one another and standing together through tough times,” even as he described the gesture as rooted in empathy and humanity.

He also acknowledged Hon. Aminu Dan Arewa, Member of the House of Representatives for Kurfi/Dutsinma, who contributed ₦6 million for additional victim support.

He said, “This is the kind of leadership Nigeria needs, one that leads with action, not just promises.”

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace, saying, “Security remains our topmost priority. We’re working tirelessly to restore lasting peace to Katsina. We will never make promises we can’t keep, and our decisions will continue to be guided by sincerity and the fear of God.”
