Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for rejecting a spurious recall petition orchestrated by certain groups and individuals. In a statement issued on Thursday, the Senator commended the electoral umpire for upholding justice and constitutional propriety, firmly refusing to capitulate to undemocratic pressures from both within Kogi State and the Senate.
INEC announced that the petition for her recall did not satisfy the constitutional requirements, declaring that no further action would be pursued on the matter. Responding to this development, Senator Natasha declared, “God has put to shame the anti-democratic forces plotting my recall from the Senate, including one of the EFCC’s most wanted persons, former governor Yahaya Bello.”
She asserted that the voice of the people is inviolable, and that neither former Governor Bello, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, nor their associates have any right to tamper with a mandate bestowed by the resolute electorate of Kogi Central. “Throughout, I have not succumbed to fear because I have a God who never fails, and I stand supported by my people. The decision to reject this recall process is justice against injustice. INEC has shown itself to be truly independent, and history will remember this act of fairness,” she stated in a statement signed by her and made available to The Guardian.
The Senator continued, “I commend the electoral umpire for exposing the shameless agents of darkness and ensuring that our laws are upheld. To God be the glory – we have prevailed once again. This decision marks another decisive defeat for those who operate from the shadows, manipulators, election riggers, violent marauders and their cohorts in Kogi Central and beyond. Let it be known that your days in politics are numbered, for a new era has dawned where the people will no longer tolerate corrupt politicians whose trademarks are violence, rigging and corruption. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all Nigerians for standing with me in this battle, especially my people in Kogi Central. My mission remains to deliver justice to the oppressed, freedom to the captives, and to make my modest contribution to ensure that Nigeria is great again. Thank you, lovers of justice.”
