The House of Representatives has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to effect the delineation of 66 constituencies across the federation.

Considering a motion on the need for the electoral body to carry out the exercise as required of it by Section 71 of the 1999 Constitution, the lawmakers said the continued failure of INEC to demarcate the constituencies to allow for equal representation in the affected states’ Houses of Assembly was denying the constituents equal rights to participate in governance.

The motion was sponsored by Kingsley Chinda (PDP Rivers).

In his lead debate, Chinda said 19 states were affected by the denial and urged INEC to act in the interest of the people.

He further called on the commission to make public the 2006 population figures and forward them to the National Assembly for ratification.

Chinda prayed the House to forward its resolution to the Senate for concurrence.
