Residents of Ganye Local Government Council of Adamawa State have commended the peaceful conduct of the State House of Assembly by-election held on Saturday.
At various polling units visited, including Gangwari Palace, Sanga-Sumi, Kangaraso and Anguwan Leko, voters turned out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.
Electoral materials, both sensitive and non-sensitive, were observed on the ground, with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) accrediting voters and conducting the exercise without hitches.
Residents lauded the smooth process, noting that voting commenced early following the timely arrival of materials.
They described the conduct as encouraging and reflective of citizens’ confidence in the electoral process.
The bye-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat of Ganye State Constituency, following the death of Abdulmalik Jauro Musa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who until his passing was the Deputy Minority Whip of the Assembly.
Meanwhile, political party stakeholders expressed optimism about their candidates’ chances of victory as the polls progressed.
Although a restriction of movement was imposed during the exercise, partial compliance was observed, with traders still displaying wares at the popular yam market even as voting continued.
