Rotary Club of Festac Town celebrates foundation month With jersey meeting

The Rotary Club of Festac Town, Lagos, has marked the 2024 Rotary Foundation month with Jersey Meeting/Fellowship with friends of the club. They also used the occasion to play a friendly football match at the Festival Mall field.

Speaking during the programme, the President of the club, Rotarian Demola Martins, said: “As we conclude our focus on the Rotary Foundation for this month, I want to emphasise the impact of our contributions on global humanitarian projects. Over the past three weeks, we have explored how the Foundation supports education, economic development, and global health initiatives.

“Our contributions to the Rotary Foundation have a direct impact on life-changing projects. Every dollar counts, and every donation brings us closer to a world with more communities resilient to natural disasters, more people with access to clean water and sanitation, more leaders working towards peace and understanding.”

Past assistant governor, Rotarian Kingsley Nwosu, said that the Foundation is actually the heartbeat of Rotary Club.

Nwosu said: “It is where funds from Rotary are derived from most of the time. So, the foundation provides for all the necessary requirements. As it were, the essence of this exercise actually is to see if we can recruit some other members into the club.”

The chairman of the Jersey meeting from the club, Rotarian Yashim Ibrahim, said the exciting programme was meant to foster the spirit of selfless service among members and also woo more people to join the club.

“To encourage ourselves with the selfless service, we give and also open up a window where we seek prospective members to come and join us and share the values and virtues of Rotary Club International.

“The club has existed long before me and it has been a culture of selfless service to humanity. This meeting is the first of its kind in the sense that we want to change this idea of meeting in an official manner to a social and relaxing atmosphere where Rotarians especially can come in and not feel so tense about the idea of giving out and not receiving from the club itself.
