Rotary Club of Maryland, Ikeja District 9111, has installed its 23rd President, Olalekan Olubajo, and outlined major projects to embark on for the 2024-2025 service year worth N75m. 
 
Speaking at the installation ceremony and induction of the Board of Directors as well as fund raising for service projects, Olubajo  outlined an ambitious plan for his tenure, focusing on transformative projects aimed at uplifting underserved communities. 
 
Olubajo highlighted the construction of a primary health care centre in Ishon, a remote island community in the Epe Local Council as the flagship project for the Rotary year, which will cost N15m. 
 
Olubajo emphasised the club’s commitment to improving the lives of the Ishon community, a region that has long been abandoned due to its challenging terrain.  He detailed ongoing efforts, such as providing a school, a state-of-the-art water system, and now, a solar-powered primary health care centre.

Olubajo mentioned several ongoing initiatives, including the distribution of sanitary pads to female students, bed kits to pregnant women, insecticide-treated nets, and medical consumables to the community’s primary health care centre.  He said in addition, the Rotary Club has implemented a micro-credit loan scheme, offering N100,000 loans to support small businesses. adding that the scheme currently benefits six individuals, with plans to expand its reach on a quarterly basis.

On educational projects, Olubajo said “the club is committed to upgrading the ICT centre at Wasimi Junior High School and enhancing the library at Wasimi Senior High School, both of which have been adopted by the club. 
 
He said these projects aim to equip students with the necessary tools and encouragement to excel academically. Olubajo noted that these schools have received consistent support from the Rotary Club, including the recent distribution of sanitary pads and the institution of a Roll of Honor to motivate students. He said the total budget for the club’s projects this year is projected to be around N75m, assuring that all projects would be sustainable.
