Samuel Obaro, one year after
It is now one year since a legal icon and an astute politician, Chief Samuel Sunday Obaro, passed on. The late Obaro, fondly called (S.S.), was born on November 6, 1938 to Okomayin Joseph Izuse and Abigail Owanzo Obaro of the Eshinavaka royal family of Igara, Edo State.
Before his death Obaro, was known as an inspirational community leader, who demonstrated that without being born with a silver spoon, with combination of hard work and determination, one can ascend the ladder of success.
As a philanthropist, he believed in giving back to society and made significant contributions to the development of his community.
Obaro was a mentor to many and a champion for social justice, often representing the underprivileged in court free of charge just to ensure that no section of the community was cheated.
He was a member of the public officers (investigation of assets) tribunal in Midwest State (1968-69); member, Bendel State Public Accounts Committee; member Bendel State Library Board; commissioner in Bendel State Executive Council; board member, Chase Merchant Bank Nigeria Limited (1980-1983); member, General Council of the Bar (1990-1992); member, Nigeria Council of Legal Education (1991-1993); and a member, National Executive Council of the Nigerian Bar Association (1985-1991)”.
As a distinguished politician, Chief Obaro was one of the founding members of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN);) founding member of the National Republic Convention (NRC); member, National Legal Committee of the Presidential Campaign Organisation (1993); founding member of the Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN); chairman of the constitutional drafting committee; National Legal Adviser, DPN (1997-1998) and a member of the APC.”
