Lagos State Governor’s wife and Chairman of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has officially unveiled the activities for the 2024 National Women’s Conference (NWC).

The event, with the theme: ‘Soar Beyond Boundaries: Enrich Communities’, will take place on September 10 and 11, 2024, at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu, while unveiling the activities during a media briefing at the State House in Ikeja, said this year’s women’s conference focused on the challenges faced by women and empowering them to achieve their full potential.

She emphasised that the conference’s consistent impact over the years had solidified its reputation as a purpose-driven gathering that positively transforms the lives of thousands of women.

“The objective of the conference remains to empower women, support their independence, and help them realise their full potential, which will, in turn, influence their families, communities, and the nation,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

She disclosed that the conference would feature a combination of virtual and physical participation, with an expected turnout of 3,000 physical participants and 1,500 virtual attendees from various sectors, including Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), political groups, civil society, among others.

Sanwo-Olu listed key topics to be addressed at the conference to include “Communicable Diseases: Recognition and Strategies for Prevention and Management,” “Challenging Gender Stereotypes: The Role of Empathy and Emotional Intelligence of the Boy-Child,” “Smart Garden Farming: Pathway to Food Security,” “Climate Change and Women’s Health,” and “Advancing Women’s Political Participation: The Role of Legislation, Education, and Mentorship.”

She added that special guests at the event would include Governors Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Ademola Adeleke (Osun) and Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), who would add colour and glamour to the conference through their participation in various ceremonies.
