Senate Presidency: Izunaso lobbies Buhari
•Says he’s most qualified
As the race for Senate leadership in the 10th National Assembly gathers momentum, the Senator representing Imo West, Osita Izunaso, yesterday, visited the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he conferred with President Muhammadu Buhari.
This is coming after Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, last week, also visited President Buhari to officially inform him of his plans to run for the office of the Senate President if the position is zoned to the South East by the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Emerging from a closed-door meeting, Izunaso told journalists that as the most senior member of the upper chamber from the South East and South South, he is the most qualified for the post.
“I’m the oldest. There is no senator today in APC of South South and South East that is older than me in the Senate, and that’s an institution that believes in ranking,” he said.
