Senator Adebule, Adebayo, others mourn Akeredolu (SAN)
• As Ondo Branch Of NBA Holds Candlelight In His Honour Today
The Senator, representing Lagos West District, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule, has condoled with the government and good people of Ondo State, especially the Akeredolu family of Owo Kingdom, over the demise of the former Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN).
Senator Adebule also commiserated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum over Akeredolu’s death; saying ‘’he was a pillar of our great party, the APC.’’ Adebule described his death as “tragic and painful.”
According to her, the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and Chairman, South West Governors’ Forum died in active patriotic service to our dear nation.
Also, the immediate past Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, described Akeredolu’s death as a sad loss to the progressive family and the nation at large.
In a statement, yesterday, Adebayo said the late governor was a man who worked tirelessly for the good of the common man. He recalled his role in the setting up of the South West security outfit, Amotekun when the region was facing attacks from bandits, who were killing and kidnapping the people of the region, saying Akeredolu rallied his fellow governors to address the insecurity and ensure that relative peace returned to the region.
Meanwhile, the Ondo Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), yesterday, also condoled with his immediate family, members of the profession and the people of Ondo State.
The group is also holding a candle light possession for the deceased today, starting from the Akure High Court. The NBA, in a statement, described Akeredolu’s contribution to the legal profession as ‘’profoundly remarkable to mention when he was the president of the association.’’
The statement read: “It’s a sad pill to take and come to reality that a frontline leader of the Bar and the Generalissimo of Amotekun Security Network is gone.’’
“He was an active voice of the masses and a crusader of human rights, who used the instrumentality of the law to fight injustice and entrench fairness, equity and the rule of law.
“As a governor of Ondo State, he stood tallin the comity of Governors in Nigeria and fearlessly spoke truth to power. He singlehandedly led the struggle of local policing in the state at the risk of his second term ticket and instrumental to the birth of Amotekun Security Network that has now brought relative peace and tranquility in the Southwest region
“We cannot but reminisce on his doggedness, resoluteness and strong passion to achieve our nascent democracy and true federalism. We are, however, consoled by the fact that death, as it is inevitable, is a debt we must all pay in this sinful world. Aketi had played his part.
