An improved electricity supply beckons the people of Kogi West Senatorial District following the delivery of the first set of 16 units of brand-new transformers (500KVA and 300KVA) and other electrical appliances to the various communities in the zone.

The donation was part of the electrification initiatives of Senator Sunday Karimi, who represents the zone, his media team said in Lokoja, yesterday.

The facilities are to illuminate the communities after a protracted blackout across the seven council areas within the region.

“Senator Sunday Steve Karimi is committed to ensuring that good representation and leadership are delivered to the people, whose mandate he is representing,” a statement reads.

The lawmaker encouraged the people to always protect public infrastructure.

He promised that more gadgets and fittings were to be delivered in the future, vowing not to rest on his oars until every nook and cranny of the senatorial district got a quality power supply.

SIMILARLY, the people of the Onicha Ukwuani community in Ndokwa West Local Council of Delta were, yesterday, excited following the restoration of electricity to their area after 20 years of an outage.

They commended Lagos-based marine expert, Chief Emeke Ochonogor, for committing over N250 million to provide electricity for the entire five quarters – Amoji, Eweshi, Ibabu, Ike-Onicha and Ugili-Amai.

Impressed by the gesture, the community immediately conferred a chieftaincy title of “Omemma 1 of Onicha Ukwuani” on the philanthropist.

During the event, the prime minister of the five quarters, the Onotu-Uku of Onicha, Chief George Ogwu, said the community deemed it necessary to honour Ochonoghor for his “unending humanitarian gesture towards the Onicha Ukwuani community, especially electrifying the communities that have been in total darkness for more than 20 years.”

He said: “The honour is because of the goodness of Emeke Ochonogor, as he has established electricity for the entire five quarters. We have nothing to offer him, so we all agreed to give him the title, Omemma 1 of Onicha, for bringing electricity to his community without the help of the government. The idea is to enable him to do more, and for others to emulate him.”

The recipient, Ochonogor, expressed happiness, saying he never knew the community would go this far to recognise him.

His words: “I am very happy about the honour, it is a thing of joy that your people recognise that you have done something for them. It is a good feeling, and hopefully, in the future, I am going to do more.”

On his part, the President General, Onicha-Ukwuani Youth, Ambrose Enuma, thanked Ochonogor for pulling them out of darkness, urging others to emulate.
