A former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central Zone in the defunct 8th National Assembly, Shehu Sani, paid a condolence visit to the family of a former Punch Correspondent, Stanley Yakubu, who died in Kaduna last weekend.
Sani, who met the deceased’s four daughters and other relatives at his Ungwar Romi residence, showered tributes on the late Yakubu, describing him as a dedicated journalist who used the pen to fight societal ills.
“I have known Stanley Yakubu since the 90s as a reporter and a fearless person who was dedicated to fighting for social justice through the power of the pen,” he said.
“I used to meet him in his Punch office, around Katsina roundabout in those days, and as dedicated journalists, you always see going what he loves doing best, that is writing reports, news, and articles. Talking about meeting deadlines.”
He advised Yakubu’s children to follow their father’s footsteps and uphold the legacy he struggled and died for.
Sani pledged to be part of the burial plans of the late journalist.
Yakubu’s daughter said her father, who was ill before his death, passed away in his sleep.
She also noted that he started encountering health challenges after the death of his wife some years ago.
