Shekarau urges Yusuf, Gawuna to accept S’Court verdict on Kano guber

Ibrahim Shekarau

Former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has advised Governor Abba Yusuf of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, to accept the outcome of the Supreme Court verdict as will of God.

The 9th National Assembly senator, in an interview with journalists in Kano, reminded both gladiators and their followers that power belongs to God, who decides and gives to whom he so wishes.

Shekarau’s advice came amid heightened apprehension and war of words between the two rival parties ahead of the governorship appeal slated to be delivered on or before January 14, 2024.

He added that he expected the court to do justice, but advised members of the public to realise that judges are human beings too.

The former Minister of Education cautioned the justices to be just in their decision, knowing well that they would also be held accountable.

He said: “May Allah choose leaders for Kano that will be of benefit to the people and the state. This is what we are praying for. He alone knows who to give and we are hopeful that he will answer our prayer.”

“I am hopeful and urge both Yusuf and Gawuna to take this as their prayer. They should ask God for the best for them. If it is not favourable to their persons, they should ask God to change it for them with the best. God, in his infinite mercy, gives power to whom he wishes, regardless of his religion, tribe or whatever else; he good and the bad.”

According to Shekarau, even the judges work with what is presented to them and the holy prophet told us that the judge, when delivering a judgment, has a reward either way.

“When he does justice, he gets two rewards, but when he does otherwise, he gets a single reward.

“We are hopeful that the judges will do what is right. If they do wrong, we should know that they are human. My advice to them is that whoever lost should not take offence and blame someone for having done it to him. He should pray to God to change it with what is best for him,” Shekarau added.
