Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Frankfurt, Germany, on Monday morning for an official visit, shortly after meeting with Nigerians in the United States on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Addressing the Nigerian community in the US, Shettima said the economic reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda had placed the country on “the right path,” urging diaspora citizens to maintain confidence in the government’s efforts.
“Continue to believe in Nigeria. Nigeria is on the right track. In the fullness of time, we will occupy our rightful place in the comity of nations,” he said.
The Vice President assured that his engagements with Nigerians abroad would continue, stressing the importance of their experience and expertise to national development. “Each one of you has value addition capabilities in your own way, and your experience is not something you can buy in the market. You have earned it,” he said.
He highlighted ongoing progress in the economy, including rising foreign reserves and increased revenue by state governments. “Our foreign reserve is crossing the $40 billion mark, the subnationals are raking in trillions of naira and we are seeing unprecedented infrastructural investment across the entire country. We’re investing in the Nigerian youth and students as is the case with NELFUND,” Shettima stated.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), also addressed the gathering, saying the Tinubu administration had eased access to passports and introduced measures to facilitate diaspora banking services.
“You don’t need to come home to get your BVN, and a lot of investment opportunities are now open and available. Most importantly, the economy is being transformed, and Nigeria is now a good place to invest,” she said.
Nigerians in attendance expressed readiness to invest in sectors including mining, health, artificial intelligence, fintech, creative industries, and agriculture.
Shettima is scheduled to continue his engagements in Germany this week as part of his official itinerary.
