Stakeholders in security matters have committed to assisting the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) leadership achieve its objective of effective crime control through modern processes, discipline and ethical observation of human rights.
The stakeholders spoke during a media tour of SCID Panti, Yaba, Lagos.
Led by Chima Nnaji, a lawyer, they pledged to assist police officers through leadership of the SCID to perform their duties by providing infrastructure, ideas and communication.
They also stressed the need for an effective feedback mechanism in the officers’ duties.
The stakeholders further applauded Lagos State police force for tracking crimes, noting that they are top notch across the federation.
During the tour, Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, Yaba, Waheed Ayilara, noted the importance of technology in crime control and called for continuous training of officers.
Ayilara added that cases like violence and sexual offences that are above the capacity of the area command are often transferred to Panti where justice is done to them.
According to him, there are now machines used to track people with just their fingerprints.
He explained that once people’s fingerprints are captured, it would be easy to get all their data.
On police training, Ayilara said police officers have to be trained always to be vast in everything, noting that a training is ongoing about cybercrime.
He urged citizens to zero their mindset on the negative side of the police.
He said: “The society needs to zero its mindset that police are bad as they are the product of the society. ”
