Following the restoration of electricity to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) on Wednesday after more than 100 days of disconnection, which excluded the students’ halls of residence, the University of Ibadan Students’ Union has vowed to continue its protest.
In a statement yesterday by the Union’s president, Bolaji Aweda, and General Secretary, Dola Ogundijo, the students’ body will today by 7am converge at the UCH main gate to protest what it termed the deliberate exclusion of the Alexander Brown Hall and Ayodele Falase Postgraduate Hall against the promise of the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, that power will be restored within 48 hours.
IBEDC had disconnected UCH on October 26, 2024 over accumulated debts, but power was restored to the hospital at 6p.m. yesterday. This was confirmed by Chairman of UCH Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), Mr. Oladayo Olabampe.
He, however, stated that only the service area was reconnected, with the residential area still in total darkness as at then.
