Senators Haruna Manu and David Jimkuta of Taraba State have taken steps to fast-track the reconstruction of the collapsed Namnai Bridge by paying a working visit to the headquarters of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) in Abuja on Tuesday.
The bridge, a key federal infrastructure, collapsed in August 2024 and has since remained in disrepair, severely affecting transportation and economic activity in the region.
Concerned by the prolonged inaction, the two Taraba lawmakers were joined by Senator Babangida Oseni of Jigawa State to engage FERMA’s leadership on possible solutions and timelines for restoration.
Responding to the lawmakers, FERMA’s Managing Director, Engr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi, assured them that a thorough evaluation of the site would be conducted promptly and that necessary arrangements would follow to address the issue.
Speaking after the meeting, Senator Manu said: “Please do whatever it will take to ensure that a restoration plan is carried out. The people are suffering, and this matter is long overdue.”
