•Steer clear of Rivers, Ondo crises, ex-APC spokesman tells President
Former Director General of Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Dr Salihu Lukman, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu risks losing re-election in 2027.
Lukman spoke in an interactive session with reporters in Abuja, hinting of an impending rebellion among the ranks of the party in no distant time.
Lukman, who resigned his position as the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman, North West, argued that the APC-led administration is not living up to the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.
“At the moment, our democracy is not responsive enough. And as a party of vision to be progressive, it is certainly not yet progressive.
“I’m worried that our leaders have become very comfortable to imagine that they can do anything and get away with it. We must appeal to our leaders that things are almost getting out of hand at the rate at which we are going under a party that is envisioned to be progressive.
“We are likely going to start witnessing rebellion and, if care is not taken, by 2027, we will be kicked out of office, which means taking Nigeria back to where it was in 2015. I think we owe President Tinubu the responsibility to tell him the honest truth.”
The Kaduna-born politician explained that his book titled: “APC and Transition Politics” billed to be launched on Tuesday next week at the Yar’Adua Centre Abuja, was aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
He said as a strong supporter of President Tinubu, he could not sit by to watch things go out of hand as a founding member of the APC.
MEANWHILE, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena, has called on Tinubu to steer clear of the face-off between the former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his successor, Mr Siminalayi Fubara.
Nabena also enjoined Tinubu not to play politics over the controversy surrounding the transfer of power from Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to his deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Ondo state.
Nabena, in a statement in Abuja, said the President and the ruling APC must respect the Constitution of Nigeria regarding the issues of governance in Ondo and Rivers states.
According to Nabena, Tinubu must not play politics with the two states and should endeavour to show that he is a democrat and not a dictator.
The Bayelsa-born APC chief said: “The Constitution of our nation must be recognised and respected at this time in Rivers and Ondo states.
“The APC should also look into the party constitution carefully, bearing in mind that the National Working Committee of our party does not have powers to dissolve an elected chairman and his executive in Rivers.”
