Golden-Pen-AwardTHE yearly Nigerian Icons Merit Awards (NIMA) will take place today in Lagos.

Organised by Mediagate Communications Limited, the event which holds at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island was introduced last year as a private initiative to recognise and honour the country’s men and women who have distinguished themselves in one way or another in their line of duty.

This year’s event, according to Mediagate MD/CEO, Mr. Folu Koyi, is dedicated to outstanding journalists and journalism promoters, living or dead, who have contributed to the enhancement of the profession in Nigeria. The guest speaker is Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye of the University of Lagos.

The event is planned to coincide with 60 years of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), which was founded in 1955 to enhance their welfare and the well being of the journalism profession.
