Upheavals in Edo PDP distracting Obaseki, says chieftain
Edo State Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) chieftain, Mr. Charles Idahosa, has said Governor Godwin Obaseki is unrelenting in hitting the ground running in the state, despite upheavals in PDP that is posing a great distraction to the governor.
The erstwhile political adviser to former Governor Adams Oshiomhole said the incumbent governor had made entreaties in a bid to resolve the party’s lingering crisis, but the efforts yielded no positive results.
It would be recalled that Idahosa defected with the governor from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, shortly before the 2020 gubernatorial election in the state.
Briefing newsmen in Benin, Idahosa said the governor had done all things possible to ensure unity in PDP, but some persons are resisting, because of personal gains, especially with 2023 general elections in mind.
“Governor Godwin Obaseki is not the problem, as some persons are making it look like. Since he joined the PDP, the governor has been begging for harmonisation of the old PDP and those that came with him from the APC.
“Several meetings had been called by the governor and were not honoured by some few individuals, who have decided that the party’s structure belongs to them. You will agree with me that in this first year, he has been very slow, because he is completely distracted.
“But the truth is that, when we were running from scorpions, we did not know fully that we were bedding with snakes.
