US Embassy offers education aid for low-income students

Nigerian organisations have been invited by the Public Diplomacy Section of the United States Embassy in Abuja to submit applications for a project promoting US higher education opportunities through standard advising centres for high-achieving, low-income Nigerian students at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

The implementing partner will work in coordination with the Education Specialists of the Public Diplomacy Section of the United States Mission in Nigeria, Abuja, and Lagos to support the 2025-26 Education Advising in Nigeria.

This includes the Education USA Opportunity Funds Programme and supporting the Standard Advising Centers in Calabar, Jos, Ibadan, and Kano.

The programme will award full financial aid from US colleges to 40 high-achieving, low-income prospective students.

It aims to assist students who lack financial resources to cover upfront costs such as standardised admission tests, application fees, international and domestic airfare, visa fees, SEVIS fees, and settling-in allowances.

The implementing partner will coordinate with the Education USA Abuja and Lagos network to achieve these goals, in line with specifications provided by the Country Education Specialist during the operational period. The funding includes an award of $175,000.

Eligible organisations include not-for-profit organisations, think tanks, civil society/non-governmental organisations, public and private educational institutions, public international organisations, and governmental institutions.

The deadline for applications is January 27, 2025.
