Retired military personnel disrupted operations at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja on Thursday, protesting unpaid entitlements.
The retirees, who arrived with sleeping mats, chairs, and canopies, accused the Federal Government of neglecting their financial rights despite repeated promises.
Speaking during the protest, Col. Innocent Azubuike (retd.), a leader of the group, lamented the hardship caused by the delays.
“We were told approval has been secured for the payment of our entitlements,” he said, adding that nothing has been seen.

Their demands included the payment of a 20%-28% salary increment for January to November 2024, palliatives owed from October 2023 to November 2024, an additional N32,000 to their pensions, the bulk payment of the Security Debarment Allowance, and a refund of deductions made from medically boarded soldiers’ pensions.
“The only thing remaining is cash backing,” Azubuike added, claiming that they were assured all payments would be made by November.
“We were assured that our long-unpaid entitlements would be settled in November. November is gone, and there is no indication of when this will happen.”
The retirees vowed to continue the protest until the government fulfils its promises.
