A renewed call for the elevation of Rogo District in Takum Local Government Area to the status of a graded chiefdom has been made by Professor Mustapha Ibi, a university don, citing the area’s recent strides in development and security.
Speaking as the guest speaker during the 30th-anniversary celebration of the Sarkin Hausawa of Takum, Hudu Ismaila Madugu, Professor Ibi stated that upgrading Rogo to a chiefdom would bring government and governance closer to the people.
He emphasised that the move would foster inclusion, spur economic growth, and improve security through formal recognition and support for local community watch groups.
“It is my firm belief that this elevation will secure a better future for our youth, elderly, men, and women,” Ibi said, expressing confidence that the people of Rogo are ready for the transition,” he said.
He called on residents to rally behind the Sarkin Hausawa, whose leadership he described as visionary and instrumental in promoting peace and unity in the community.
“Such a move will contribute towards building the Rogo of our dreams one that plays a vital role in the broader development of Takum and Taraba State at large,” he added.
Also lending support to the proposal was the Chairman of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), Chief Philip Duwe.
He commended the Hausa community in Takum for maintaining peace and distancing themselves from crises, unlike other groups in the region.
Duwe urged all ethnic communities in the council to emulate the Hausa people, stressing that peace is a prerequisite for development.
The chairman of the event’s organizing committee, Sani Abdullahi Tullu, praised his team for the success of the celebration, while the Sarkin Hausawa, Hudu Ismaila Madugu, recounted his efforts over the past three decades to maintain peace and unity in his domain.
He stressed that with collective effort, Rogo can attract greater development.
Highlighting the contributions of notable figures like former Chief of Army Staff, General Theophilus Y. Danjuma, the monarch urged the younger generation to follow in their footsteps to continue advancing the region.
In a message by the member representing Takum I in the State House of Assembly, Governor Agbu Kefas expressed delight at the occasion and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.
He commended the monarch’s efforts in promoting peace and encouraged him to continue on that path.
