A panel constituted by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to investigate circumstances surrounding the death of Greatness Tolulope Olorunfemi has said that contrary to social media claims, the 33-year-old lady was already dead by the time she was brought to a hospital.
Olorunfemi died after she was allegedly pushed out of a moving vehicle along the Maitama-Kubwa highway by a ‘one chance’ (robbery) syndicate on September 26, 2023.
The panel also disclosed that the hospital did not request a police report before attending to Olorunfemi and that there was no evidence that she bled before arrival or after arrival at the hospital.
According to the panel, footage from a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) at Maitama District Hospital, where the late Olorunfemi was rushed to, showed she had already died before arriving at the premises.
According to eyewitnesses, she was rushed to Maitama General Hospital, where medical personnel refused to attend to her and demanding a police report.
On October 4, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, constituted a nine-member panel to investigate the death.
Presenting the report, yesterday, in Abuja, chairman of the panel, Prof. Mohammed Mohammed, said the late victim was attended to, 40 seconds after she was brought to the hospital, and that no request for a police report was made as alleged on social media.
Mohammed also observed that videos online that showed the late Olorunfemi in a sitting position did not present any evidence of life.
He explained that her cause of death was strangulation. He said contrary to social media reports, she did not bleed to death because minimal bloodstains were found on her.
Mohammed said staff at Maitama General Hospital did not adhere to professional standards because the deceased was examined in a vehicle in an open space at the hospital, as opposed to being put on a stretcher and treated privately in the Accident and Emergency unit.
He said systemic inadequacies were noted in handling her corpse, which delayed due to lack of space in a morgue.
Also speaking, the Mandate Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dolapo Fasawe, said Olorunfemi’s death, caused by insecurity in the FCT, was avoidable.
Fasawe said: “Meanwhile, the FCT Minister has told all the security arms of the FCT to beef up security, and he is committed to ensuring safe transportation for commuters in the territory. In the next couple of months, I believe we will reduce the incidences of insecurity.”
He said the FCT is working with the police to ensure there is a post in every hospital in the territory.
