Women in Zamfara troop en masse out to cast their votes
Several women in Gusau, the Zamfara capital, on Saturday trooped out to various voting units to cast their votes for the governorship and state assembly elections.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who monitored the exercise, reports that the women were at the polling centres as early as 6 a.m. for accreditation.
Some of them backed their babies and carried their meals with them.
A cross section of the women interviewed by NAN, said they were ready to exercise their franchise and would not return home after accreditation for launch until they cast their votes.
One of the women, Hassana Lawali from Hayin Mallam Sani area of Gusau, said she trekked for about two kilometres to reach her polling unit at Mareri.
NAN observed that the security agencies mounted joint security check points at several areas in the capital to ensure security and conducive atmosphere for voting.
