The summer transfer window was kind to some of Nigeria’s top stars, with Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Boniface, Cyriel Dessers and Chrisantus Uche moving to new clubs, but it left 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup top star, Kelechi Iheanacho, wondering where to take his game next.
Chukwueze joined Fulham from AC Milan on a season-long loan, which could be made permanent at the end of the season for a fee of $26 million, while Boniface joined Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen, also on loan, after a failed attempt to switch to AC Milan.
One of Super Eagles’ newest stars, Tolu Arokodare, moved from Genk (Belgium) to Wolves on a four-year deal that cost the English club €27 million, just as Dessers left Scotland’s Rangers for Panathinaikos, which plays in the Greek Super League, with Uche swapping Spain’s Getafe for Crystal Palace.
Although the transfer window closed on Monday in many parts of Europe, Iheanacho still has the opportunity to move to either Belgium or Switzerland because their windows remain open until next Monday. He could also still go to Turkey, as their window closes on September 12 or the Saudi Pro League, which is open for business until September 23.
