The family of the late Magaji Lawali Yandoto has expressed frustration over what it described as the slow pace of justice in the trial of the alleged killer of their father, Retired Col. Rabiu Yandoto.
In a statement issued by Anas Magaji Lawali Yandoto on behalf of the family, they lamented that they were still struggling with the pain of their father’s brutal and unconstitutional death, while awaiting meaningful progress in the case.
The family commended Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State for his earlier promise to ensure that justice is served, but expressed growing concern about delays in the judicial process.
“Previously, we wrote to Governor Dauda Lawal to remind him of his promise, expressing our specific concern that the accused, Retired Col. Rabiu Yandoto, had been granted bail and was moving freely without facing trial. We are therefore relieved to confirm that the Ministry of Justice has now arraigned him before a competent court,” the statement read.
According to the family, the first hearing took place on Wednesday, October 15, but the government prosecutor was absent due to another court engagement, leading the presiding judge to adjourn the matter until November 20.
They noted that several human rights organisations and civil groups attended the session to observe proceedings and appreciated their vigilance and support.
“We maintain our full confidence that the government of Governor Dauda Lawal will handle this case fairly, as its sole interest is justice. We also have faith in the presiding judge’s ability to deliver a just verdict, given their esteemed track record,” the family said.
They reaffirmed their belief that under Governor Lawal’s leadership, justice would eventually be served and called on well-wishers, relatives, and concerned organisations to continue their support and prayers as the legal process continues.
