Yayi thanks Abiodun for role in return to Ogun

The lawmaker representing Ogun West, Senator Solomon Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, has narrated how the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, approached President Bola Tinubu to ensure his return to Ogun State.

Yayi, who once served as the Senator for Lagos West from 2015 to 2023, disclosed this during a thanksgiving ceremony at Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Unity Cathedral Ogun Province 7.

According to him, when Tinubu queried Abiodun to know if he supported the return, the governor answered in the affirmative.

“Asiwaju said ‘This is the third time that Yayi is making this threat to go back home. Are you ready to support him?’ And his Excellency said ‘Yes, I am ready,'” Yayi narrated.

He thanked Abiodun for his role in ensuring his return to the state.

Yayi’s revelation may not be unconnected to opposition against his reported aspiration to become the Governor of Ogun State.

The opposition comes from those who believe he is not a true son of the soil, even though he has been listed by the Egba Lokan Agenda 2027 as one of the Egba sons capable of taking over from Abiodun.

Other potential governorship aspirants of Egba extraction listed for the position include the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole; Sen. Lanre Tejuosho; son of former governor of Ogun State, Olumide Osoba; daughter of former President, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello; Minister of Finance, Chief Wale Edun; and Nigeria’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Amb. Sharafa Adetunji Ishola.
