Two years after leaving thegovernment house, ex-Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Tuesday crossed path with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.
Ganduje, who presently heads the board of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) was in Kano to inspect projects at the airport when he encountered Governor Yusuf at the VIP lounge after the inspection.
Yusuf and Ganduje met face-to-face for the first time on Tuesday after more than two years and a highly contested election. The two prominent political personalities were seen exchanging pleasantries in Hausa language for about four minutes before they later parted ways for Abuja in different flights.
Ganduje, who left office in 2023 after the expiration of his two terms of eight years in office, departed Kano on the eve of Yusuf’s inauguration as he did not personally hand over power to Yusuf, an assignment he delegated the then Secretary to the state government, Usman Alhaji, to conduct.
Speaking to journalists earlier, Ganduje explained that he was in Kano to assessing both ongoing and abandoned projects with a view to developing a strategic plan to upgrade the facility.
“We are here to see things for ourselves, the old and the new projects so that we can chart a new course to revitalise this airport and restore its place among the best in the region,” he said.
In her remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, highlighted the agency’s renewed commitment to staff welfare since she assumed office. She said the management has improved working conditions and will continue to prioritise employee well-being as a foundation for effective service delivery and long-term institutional growth.
