Zamfara convokes parley to improve security

• Establishes persons with disabilities board

The Zamfara government has convened a high-level security stakeholders’ meeting in Gusau as part of renewed efforts to combat banditry and other forms of criminality in the state.

The strategic session, organised by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), brought together heads of security agencies and key government officials.

The meeting was aimed at fostering stronger synergy among the state government, security institutions, and Federal Government agencies to enhance the effectiveness of the ongoing operations.

The SSG, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, chaired the session, which was later joined by the Deputy Governor, Mani Malam Mummuni, further demonstrating the administration’s highest political commitment to securing Zamfara.

Participants critically reviewed the current security landscape and deliberated on 10 new strategic recommendations proposed by the state government.

The strategies were to reinforce recent successes and scale up operations against banditry and related criminal activities.

While addressing the stakeholders, Nakwada commended the dedication and bravery of security personnel across the state. He emphasised the importance of sustained and adaptive collaboration, noting that joint, responsive strategies were key to building lasting peace and stability.

THE Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration has equally approved the establishment of the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board. Confirming the development, Nakwada explained that the move followed the recent amendment of the law to safeguard the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), protect them from any form of discrimination, and promote equal access to opportunities in every aspect of society.

According to him, key amendments to the law include the substitution of the board’s ‘Chairman’ with ‘Executive Chairman’; the ‘Executive Secretary’ with ‘Secretary’ and ‘part-time members’ with full-time members.

He said the amended law had also made it mandatory for members of the board to be among the PWDs to ensure that all activities of the board serve the interests of the targeted groups.
