Zamfara, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Niger govs honoured as democracy heroes

The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, along with his Ebonyi and Kaduna counterparts, Francis Nwifuru and Uba Sani, respectively, were honoured at the just concluded Democracy Heroes Award Africa, which was held in Abuja.

Also recognized at the award ceremony were the Governor of Niger State, Umar Mohammed Bago; former Senate President, Sen. Abubakar Bukola Saraki; the member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency of Lagos State in the House, Rt. Hon. James Faleke; the member representing Bichi Federal Constituency, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi; Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos; the National Chairman of Accord Party, Prof. Chris Imumolen; the Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Commission, Tosin Adeoju; and a host of others.

The event was part of the celebrations marking the country’s 64th Independence anniversary.

The award also recognizes entrepreneurs, businesspeople, and entertainers whose contributions have helped entrench stability through job creation, youth empowerment, and poverty alleviation measures.

The Democracy Heroes Award is hosted by Face of Democracy Nigeria (FDN).

Speaking shortly after receiving his award, a representative of Gov. Dauda Lawal said it is worth celebrating that democracy is gradually becoming institutionalised. He expressed hope that the coming years will bring multiple indices of growth for both democracy and good governance.

The Project Director of FDN, Olufunsho Ajagbonna, also known as Fajag, expressed satisfaction with the success of the award program, stating that such recognition is meant to encourage those making significant contributions towards good governance and nation-building.

He congratulated the award winners and encouraged them to continue making meaningful contributions toward national development, thereby placing their names in national history.

The event, hosted by Bigmo of Wazobia FM and Dorkong, featured electrifying performances from cultural troupes.
