Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has set a two-month completion date for 1,000 housing units in Logumani and Gajibo communities to resettle Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Ngala and Dikwa Local Councils of the state.

According to him, 500 houses each at Logumani and Gajibo, have reached completion stage towards the relocation of the IDPs from camps to their communities.

Zulum, who made the disclosure while inspecting the housing projects in the two communities, said: “I am confident that the ongoing work on the housing projects will be completed.”

He added that the displaced persons would be resettled before the end of this year.

“We have seen the level of construction here and I have given a deadline of two months to complete the work. The state government will return the IDPs back to their rebuilt border communities with Cameroon,” he said.

Speaking on the facilities to be provided in communities, he said the two housing projects comprise the buildings, primary schools, health centres, police outposts and boreholes for the supply of potable water.

Zulum also paid a visit to the Shehu of Dikwa, Alhaji Mohammed Ibn Shehu Masta II El-Kanemi, assuring him that his government would ensure food security through irrigation farming to boost productivity in the Lake Chad Basin.

According to him, the government would overcome the challenges of food insecurity, including the problems of IDPs livelihood support and recovery in communities.

He noted that the government would provide farm inputs, including modern irrigation facilities in next year’s farming season to enhance crop yields.
