National Population Commission (NPC) has trained journalists in Oyo State for effective reporting of 2023 population and housing census.

Speaking at the one-day state level capacity building workshop for journalists on ‘Effective Reporting of the 2023 Population and Housing Census’ held at the commission’s office, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Zonal Director of the NPC, Abdulkreem Bello, said the training would enable journalists to understand the nitty gritty of census.

While speaking on the workshop’s purpose, Bello said it was meant to teach journalists about census processes and abbreviations the Commission uses.

He said: “It is to tell journalists our obstacles so that when they are reporting, they will report us well.”

Bello, who represented the Federal Commissioner, Dr. Eyitayo Oyetunji, said the Commission would conduct the best and first digital census in the country.

Various officers of the NPC, who spoke at the training, including Akin Oyetunde, Peter Ojelakin, Alhaji Towobola and others, said the Commission would deliver the first of its kind digital population and housing census in the country.

They said with introduction of modern technology, the 2023 census would be reliable, credible verifiable and usable.
