Political lessons for Nigeria from Kwara State

Sir: Only enemies of Nigeria will still believe in Chief Iyiola Oyedepo and his group that have joined the most brutal and destructive rulers of Nigeria: General Muhammadu Buhari (GMB) and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The southwest came under the most destructive rulers led by a chieftain of the APC, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demolishing people’s houses and shops with wanton abandon. Ultimately, most of the southwest governors could no longer pay workers’ salaries and emoluments, duly. Lagos State that is said to be paying regularly is, at the same time, said to be very high in local and foreign debts. Yet, the Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, like the rest of them, always think of which houses and shops are next for demolition, and the owners and occupants alike thrown into bitter cold. That is why Tinubu, Nasir El-Rufai, Rochas Okorocha, and the rest of them fit together with GMB, pursuing Boko Haram in a most brutal war; killing, maiming, and displacing peoples, and, at the same time, protecting the Fulani herdsmen terrorists, squandering human lives and economic resources, 2015 till date.

What then can Kwara State people hope to benefit from Oyedepo and his group that have joined GMB/APC than promotion of carnage and economic destruction of Nigeria? Oyedepo and his group know how the game is played: it costs you nothing to whip up emotion and sentiment to attain power, and afterwards to explain why you cannot perform. Or, is that not what GMB and the APC are doing, 2015 till date, prosecuting the unjust war against Boko Haram, and protecting the Fulani herdsmen terrorists, but blaming past rulers for having destroyed the nation and her economy? How are GMB and the APC building the nation and her economy? Isn’t it by buying warplanes and sophisticated weapons; killing, maiming, and destroying the economy? Yes, but GMB is also claiming to be fighting corruption and even saying that God is his own witness. Understandably, GMB can be very hypocritical. Remember him saying during the Ramadan that he was fasting even though not physically fit. That was when I told him to stop blowing his own trumpet before God Almighty. Is it God who asked him to be fighting unjustifiable war against Boko Haram, and to be protecting the Fulani herdsmen terrorists, and as a corollary squandering human lives and economic resources, wantonly?

Between Oyedepo and Saraki dynasty, which is which? That was why I told Bukola Saraki to resign from public offices and settle down as the Waziri Garin (Prime Minister) of Ilorin Emirate. Through the Saraki dynasty, the entire state is tied to the apron of Ilorin Emirate, appropriating to itself state and federal institutions sited within the Emirate’s boundary. And through the influence of the Saraki dynasty, many state and federal institutions are sited within the Emirate’s boundary. Many Kwarans had thought that Oyedepo and his group would create a balance.

I knew it would not happen, since Oyedepo kept saying that only Christian and Muslim prayers were supporting the PDP that he was leading. I have no doubt that Kwara, nay Nigeria, will never rise under politicisation of Christianity and Islam; Europe and America didn’t develop until they separated Church from state. It is Boko Haram for Nigeria’s elite to be distorting Nigeria’s constitution that prohibits “state religion,” meaning Nigeria is a secular nation. I believe Nigerians should embrace the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as a common platform for victory in 2019, because Nigeria should rise again as the Giant of Africa.
