Outgoing Rep delivers N2.2b constituency projects

Magaji Da’u Aliyu
Despite his failed bid to the 10th National Assembly in the February 25 general elections, Magaji Da’u Aliyu, representing Birnin Kudu/Buji Federal Constituency in Jigawa State, has handed over three completed projects worth N 2.2 billion to three communities in the two local councils of his constituency.

Communities that benefited from the gesture included two in Birnin Kudu Local Council and one in Gantsa, Buji Local Council.

The projects commissioned included 10km road from Gantsa to Giginya village, which links over 14 communities and gulped over N1.8 billion.

Others were renovation of Birninkudu Mini Stadium with over N250 million and construction of Primary Healthcare facility in Nafara village, also in Birnin Kudu, with over N300 million.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after handing over some of the projects, Aliyu, who chairs the House Committee on Power in the outgoing National Assembly, expressed belief that the project would enhance the socio-economic life of the area.

He noted that they were part of his campaign promises, charging the residents to make the best use of them and protect them.

Aliyu said his failure to secure a third term in the Green Chambers of the National Assembly would not deter him from serving his people.

Speaking on behalf of the project beneficiaries, Malam Ibrahim of Giginya village said the access road would enable them to transport their farm produce to the markets.

He noted that the provision of the asphalted road would give them more access to healthcare, facilitate movement of goods and services to stimulate development in the area.

“In fact, we are now unlocked and connected to the larger world,” Giginya declared.

The people of Nafara community expressed appreciation to the lawmaker, describing the new health facilities as a source of hope to tackle the high rate of infant and maternal mortality in the area.

The community also called on the state government to, as matter of public interest and inline with its public healthcare policy, post medical and personnel for the immediate take- off of the facility.

In Birnin Kudu, youths gathered at the stadium to celebrate the new enabling environment for sports development in the area, with the renovation project.
