2027: Soludo flays politician promising one-term

I can’t determine my successor, Uzodinma tells Owerri zone
Governor Charles Soludo has condemned as wrongful, some politicians’ proposals in their campaigns, promising to govern for a single term in office, stating that such promises mislead the people to vote for them.

The governor, who was a guest on Arise TV on Wednesday, stated that when a process of zoning is established in a state, some politicians would come with sweet promises on their manifestos, requesting votes to only stay one term.

He noted that this is being clever, only for self-aggrandisement.

The governor said that this is an ingenious move to play on the people’s intelligence, not actually unfolding what their intentions are.

Soludo referred to a case in Anambra when, in 2017, his predecessor was running for a second term, stating that some came telling Anambra people that they would run for one term, but the people voted massively for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

He stated: “Now, again, we are in for another election, and some people are saying that l am from the South, and the North just finished and handed over to the South, and the South would serve its term and go to the Central. And now some people from the South Senatorial zone are showing up, saying if you vote for me, they will do this, and will spend only one term.”

Meanwhile, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has said that it is not within his power to determine who succeeds him when he leaves office in January 2028.

The governor made the assertion when stakeholders from Owerri Zone paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House, Owerri, yesterday.

He advised that the Charter of Equity should not be used as a tool to create confusion in the state, emphasising that what is paramount is the collective interest of the state towards achieving progressive development.

According to him, the person who will emerge as his successor must be a product of a democratic process and not chosen by him or by a few individuals.
