ADC suspends unveiling of coalition in Kogi to mourn Buhari

As a mark of honour to the late President Muhammadu Buhari and in keeping with the national mood of mourning, the Kogi State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended the official unveiling of the coalition party in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The Guardian reports that the unveiling ceremony was planned to be held at the Kafas Multi-purpose Hall, Lokongoma phase 2, Lokoja. And adherents of the coalition party had already begun to assemble for the event.

However, when the coalition’s leaders eventually arrived, it was announced that the ceremony had to be suspended to allow for participation in the national mourning of the late Buhari. The crowd was immediately dispersed.

The North Central leader and Kogi State Coordinator of the coalition, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, who represented Kogi West Senatorial District on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the National Assembly, explained that the coalition had already scheduled the programme before the news of the death of the former President Buhari filtered to town yesterday.

He pointed out that as a mark of honour and respect to the departed soul, all other activities have been suspended.

He therefore ordered both Islamic and Christian prayers for the repose of the soul of President Bihari and prayed to God to give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

In his remarks, Senator Nuhurudeen Abatemi spoke glowingly of the late former President Bihari, commending him for his unwavering commitment to serving the nation.

He recalled his tenure as the Military Head of State in 1984 and his subsequent return to party politics in 2003.

He also recalled how he subsequently won the presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015.
