The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Dr Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered a discreet investigation into the arrest of two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for alleged electoral offences during the federal constituency by-election in Iperu Remo, Ogun State.
The suspects were arrested on August 16, 2025, during a routine patrol by officers attached to the Iperu Remo Division.
At about 12:45 p.m., the patrol team intercepted a Mitsubishi Spacewagon with registration number Lagos AKD 887 HT, conveying three occupants: the two INEC officials and their driver.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of N2.5 million from one of the occupants.
During interrogation, the suspect, a male, reportedly confessed that he collected the money at Kehoy Hotel, Iperu, from a man he identified only as “Political Solution,” on the directive of his supervisor.
Following the arrest, Dr Ogunlowo directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for immediate investigation.
The Commissioner assured the public that election monitoring across the state is ongoing and pledged that the command would keep residents informed on the progress and outcome of the investigation.
